Rosemary Sutcliff, author of The Eagle of the Ninth and The Mark of the Horse Lord, winner  of The Library Association’s Carnegie Medal , is not spelt Rosemary Sutcliffe: this I have had to tell Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire Libraries Service in the UK. Yet they claim they ‘make every effort to maintain the accuracy of the information …’. Some effort. It is disappointing, indeed annoying, that a library service in any part of its work, let alone in teaching material for children, cannot spell Rosemary Sutcliff’s name correctly. (There is no E at the end. It is not Rosemary Sutcliffe). I look forward to a response to what I am told is complaint reference number 62796 – I suppose a library service that gets Rosemary’s name wrong could perhaps get 62,795 other things wrong! The offending question:

Which Bedfordshire author wrote stories about tiny people who lived in the fabric of houses?   a) Enid Blyton c) Rosemary Sutcliffe b) Mary Norton d) Arthur Ransome
