The Eagle of the Ninth film/movie (starring Channing Tatum , Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland, Tahir Raman, Mark Strong) is creating increased interest in Rosemary Sutcliff’s historical novel, which has sold over a million copies since it first came out in 1954. These are the versions of The Eagle of the Ninth in the UK I know of, recorded at the British Library at the time of posting.

The Roundabout Horse illustrated children’s story by Rosemary Sutcliff
In The Roundabout Horse, Rosemary Sutcliff’s illustrated children’s story, Sunflower is a special roundabout horse. Although he is made from wood, he has real feelings. Jenny is special. When she rides Sunflower, something magical happens both to him and to her. I love this short children’s story from Rosemary, and my children did too when they were young.
Children’s and young adult author Rosemary Sutcliff on being disabled
Rosemary Sutcliff once wrote (quoted in the Oxford Companion to Children’s Literature):
“there’s a great loneliness about having any kind of handicap in a world which in general doesn’t, however much you get to the stage where neither you nor anybody else notices. You tend to create somebody on your side of the barrier who will talk your own language.”
(I have blogged an article she wrote about disability before)
